Applications are accepted starting January 3, 2024.
Undergraduates from Barnard, Brown, Bryn Mawr, Harvard, Princeton, Spelman, Stanford, and Yale are eligible to apply for Liman Summer Fellowships. Graduate students from Princeton are also eligible. At Yale, all undergraduates—with the exception of graduating seniors—may apply.
Each participating school has its own application process, deadlines, and requirements for the Liman Summer Fellowship. See your school’s program contact below for more information.
Yale undergraduates: Submit your application online through Yale Student Grants and Fellowships (CommunityForce).
Incomplete applications will not be accepted. You must include:
- Résumé (Two-page limit)
Include both academic and work experiences, including volunteer work and public service projects. - Reflective essay (1,000-word limit)
Help us learn about you and understand your commitments. Write about topics, ideas, or projects that engage you. Please do not repeat your resume. - Two letters of recommendation from Yale faculty
Letters should come from individuals who know your work. Ladder faculty or faculty visiting Yale from other institutions, rather than teaching assistants or graduate students, are preferred. - Current college transcript (Unofficial copies are fine.)
- Potential host organizations (One-page limit)
Describe the organizations you have contacted or will contact for placement. Indicate if you are interested in placement at Legal Action Center or All Our Kin
You need not secure an internship before you apply for a Fellowship. However, some summer internship application deadlines pass before we select Fellows.
When possible, we recommend first contacting organizations to ask whether they can offer you an internship. You can explain that you have a pending Fellowship application. Once we select Liman Fellows, you can follow up with them.
If you do not have an internship after being selected as a Liman Fellow, we will help you find one.
