Kevin Christopher Newsom

Kevin Christopher Newsom is a Visiting Lecturer in Law at Yale Law School and a Circuit Judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. Prior to his judicial appointment in 2017, Newsom was partner and chair of the appellate practice at Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP. From 2003 to 2007, he served as Solicitor General for the State of Alabama. While in practice, Newsom argued four cases in the U.S. Supreme Court and scores more in the federal and state appellate courts.  In 2011, Chief Justice John Roberts appointed Newsom to the Advisory Committee on Appellate Rules, on which he served for six years. Newsom holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School, where he was Articles Editor of the Harvard Law Review and Senior Editor of the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy. He received a B.A. from Samford University, which recognized him with the President’s Cup, given to the student ranked first in the graduating class. He clerked for Justice David Souter of the U.S. Supreme Court and Judge Diarmund O’Scannlan of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
