The Rare Book Room invites you to an open house, to welcome the recent gift to the Library of William Blackstone’s annotated copy of Gilbert’s A Treatise of Tenure in Two Parts (1730). This donation forms an uncanny pair with Blackstone’s annotated copy of Gilbert’s An Historical View of the Court of Exchequer (1738), already held by the Library. Blackstone was a fan of Gilbert, describing his work as “impossible to abstract or abridge, without losing some beauty and destroying the chain of the whole.”
