Police Brutality, Private Prisons, and the Austerity Crisis in Cities

Over the course of the decade, cities like Chicago have paid out hundreds of millions of dollars in police settlements, resulting in damaging cuts to services and investment in communities of color. Cash-strapped municipalities have also worked with Wall Street to build private prisons and immigrant detention centers, in the hope of securing additional federal dollars.

The Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project (ASAP) has supported hundreds of asylum-seeking families, helping them stay in the United States and win their asylum cases. Through ASAP, students can participate in legal drafting, case management, advocacy, and trips on behalf of formerly detained refugee families. We welcome law students across all class years. This Tuesday, we’ll be having a MEET & GREET with delicious donuts and coffee from Donut Crazy.
