Chicago Prof. Richard Thaler Discusses Behavioral Economics of Swindling and Selling in Raben Lecture October 4

University of Chicago Professor Richard H. Thaler will deliver the John R. Raben/Sullivan & Cromwell Fellowship Lecture on Monday, October 4, 2010, at Yale Law School. His lecture, titled “The Behavioral Economics of Swindling and Selling: A Lecture in Honor of Arthur Leff,” will take place at 4:30 p.m. in the Faculty Lounge. Sponsored by the Yale Law School Center for the Study of Corporate Law, it is free and open to the public.

Thaler is the Ralph and Dorothy Keller Distinguished Service Professor of Behavioral Science and Economics at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business, where he is also director of the Center for Decision Research.

He is considered a pioneer in the fields of behavioral economics and finance and has specialized in the study of saving and investing decision-making. He is the author of numerous articles, as well as the books, Nudge: Improving Decisions about Health, Wealth and Happiness (with Cass Sunstein), The Winner’s Curse, and Quasi Rational Economics.

He worked as a research economist for the Center of Naval Analyses in Arlington and went on to teach courses at Cornell, the University of British Columbia, the Sloan School of Management at MIT, and the Center for Advanced Study in Behavioral Sciences before joining the University of Chicago faculty in 1995.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from Case Western Reserve University and master’s and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Rochester.

The John R. Raben/Sullivan & Cromwell Fellowship brings to the Law School a leading expert in securities law or the accounting for business enterprises, who delivers a public lecture at the School.
