Gregory J. Fleming ’88 to Join Yale Law School’s Corporate Law Center
Gregory J. Fleming ’88, the former president and chief operating officer of Merrill Lynch & Co., was appointed Senior Research Scholar at Yale Law School and Distinguished Visiting Fellow of the Center for the Study of Corporate Law at Yale Law School in January 2009. Mr. Fleming is a leading authority in the global financial services industry; at Yale Law School’s Corporate Law Center, he will teach, write, and conduct research related to the current global financial crisis.
Yale Law School Dean Harold Hongju Koh said, “We are delighted to welcome Greg Fleming back to Yale Law School. In the past two decades, Greg has led an extraordinary career in global financial services and has justly earned his reputation as a clear-eyed and foresighted manager operating in the eye of the current global financial storm. From his unique vantage point, he will bring enormous insight to our students, faculty, and graduates as we try to retrace how we got to where we are, and where we should go from here.”
Mr. Fleming was appointed president and chief operating officer of Merrill Lynch in June of 2007. From 2003 to 2007, he served as executive vice president and co-president of the Global Markets and Investment Banking Group. Mr. Fleming continues to advise leading global corporations, financial institutions, financial sponsors and hedge funds in the United States and internationally. He has assisted clients with restructurings, acquisitions and sales, public and private financing, and risk management. Mr. Fleming joined Merrill Lynch as an investment banker in 1992. Previously, he was a principal at Booz Allen Hamilton.
Mr. Fleming is a director on the boards of BlackRock Inc. and the New York City Ballet, he is a trustee of the Asia Society, and he is a member of the board of trustees for the Rippowam Cisqua School in Bedford, New York.
Mr. Fleming is a Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude graduate in economics from Colgate University and received his J.D. from Yale Law School in 1988.
