Information Society Project 15th Reunion Sept. 28-29 at Yale Law School
It started as a series of casual lunches in 1997 at the Yorkside restaurant, where Professor Jack Balkin and a few students gathered around a table to talk about the explosion in information technologies and what that might mean for law and the society at large.
Today, the Information Society Project at Yale Law School (ISP) is a formidable force in the world of technology and information law – protecting and expanding global access to knowledge, promoting democratic values and civil liberties online, providing better access to digital education, encouraging intellectual property reform and innovation, and addressing the legal, social, ethical, and policy impacts of the genomic revolution. It has spawned a number of vibrant programs and research initiatives, including the Knight Law and Media Program (LAMP), the Media Freedom and Information Access Clinic (MFIA), the Visual Law Project, the Floyd Abrams Institute for Freedom of Expression, the Access to Knowledge (A2K) program, The Program for the Study of Reproductive Justice, and the Thomson Reuters Initiative on Law and Technology.
To celebrate its many remarkable accomplishments over the past decade and a half – including outstanding international conferences on topics such as Access to Knowledge, Global Censorship, Advertising in the Digital Age, Privacy and Innovation, and Journalism and New Media – the ISP will hold a 15th reunion celebration on Sept. 28 and 29 at Yale Law School. All members of the ISP family, including fellows and alums, are invited to attend. The weekend will include presentations, panel discussions, games, food, and fun.
“Our greatest strength – and our greatest source of pride – is the wonderful group of people who have been associated with the ISP over the years,” explained Professor Balkin, the ISP’s founder and director. “Our reunion gives everyone a chance to meet each other and strengthen our international network of scholars and activists.”
Registration begins Friday at 2:00 p.m., followed by a panel discussion at 3 p.m. The program continues all day Saturday, concluding with a formal dinner at the Union League Café. Please register in advance by Sept. 24. You may register online here. For more information, contact heather.branch@yale.edu.
