Information Society Project Names Executive Director and A2K Program Director

The Information Society Project (ISP) at Yale Law School has announced the appointment of a new Executive Director and a new Access to Knowledge (A2K) Program Director.

Dr. Laura DeNardis has been named the new Executive Director of the Yale Information Society Project and an Associate Research Scholar at Yale Law School. An interdisciplinary law and technology scholar, her research addresses the legal and political implications of information technologies and new media. She has previously taught at New York University and George Mason University and served as a management consultant in Ernst & Young’s Information Technology practice. She is the author of the book Information Technology in Theory (2007, with Pelin Aksoy), numerous book chapters and articles, and the forthcoming book Protocol Politics: The Globalization of Internet Governance, to be published by the MIT Press. DeNardis holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering science from Dartmouth College, a master of engineering from Cornell University, and a Ph.D. in science and technology studies from Virginia Tech.

Lea Shaver ’06 is the new Access to Knowledge Program Director and Associate Research Scholar in Law at Yale Law School. Shaver’s research focuses on developing a cross-national A2K index and advancing A2K within the international human rights framework. In her new capacity, she will plan and direct the Information Society Project’s activities in the area of Access to Knowledge.  Prior to joining Yale ISP, Shaver was a Fulbright Scholar to South Africa, where she contributed to socio-economic rights litigation efforts at the Centre for Applied Legal Studies. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the social sciences from the University of Chicago and a J.D. from Yale Law School.
