Panel Discusses 1L Summer Job Opportunities in Health Law and Policy
The Solomon Center for Health Law and Policy, the Yale Health Law and Policy Society, and the Career Development Office at Yale Law School hosted a panel discussion to introduce first-year law students to the diverse array of summer job opportunities available in health law and policy. The Oct. 22 panel included second- and third-year students with experiences spanning law firms, non-profits, and government.
Liam Bendicksen ’27 spent his 1L summer at Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro, a national plaintiff-side law firm that litigates class action cases focused on pharmaceutical antitrust, corporate fraud, and other health-related questions.
Juliet Isselbacher ’27 spent her 1L summer at the ACLU of Missouri, a non-partisan, non-profit legal organization working on reproductive freedom and other issues at the intersection of individual liberty and health care access.
Alyshia Laidlaw ’26 spent her 1L summer at Goodwin Proctor, a global, full-service law firm with a broad portfolio of health-related matters, in areas including regulatory compliance, mergers and acquisitions, and life sciences litigation.
Claudia Opper ’27 spent her 1L summer in the Healthcare Rights and Access Section of the California Attorney General's Office, a leading public law office using investigations, litigation, and legislation to protect consumer healthcare rights, enforce anticompetition laws, and advance health equity.
Claire Talbert ’27 spent her 1L summer at the Connecticut Office of Health Strategy, a state agency established with bipartisan support in 2018 that implements comprehensive, data-driven strategies to promote equal access to high-quality health care.
With summer job application season fast approaching, the panelists discussed the application and interview processes, the types of assignments they worked on, and how their summer experiences shaped their law school and career trajectories. The panel concluded by answering questions from the audience.
