The Solomon Center for Health Law and Policy hosted a roundtable on Nov. 19 with first- and second-year law students and Visiting Senior Fellow Rose Carmen Goldberg ’15. Goldberg, the Fall 2025 George W. Crawford Visiting Clinical Lecturer in Law at Yale Law School, was recently named director of the Veterans Clinic and an associate teaching professor at the University of Washington School of Law.

Goldberg shared her wide-ranging experiences across litigation, policy, and academia. She reflected on the process of applying for a public interest law fellowship and implementing her project, through which she founded a medical-legal partnership for unhoused and low-income veterans. She also discussed her many years litigating high-profile health consumer protection cases at the Office of the Attorney General of California and leveraging law, policy, and media to improve health outcomes for veterans.

Goldberg emphasized the importance of taking risks and exploring new subjects while in law school. She explained that while she had never anticipated starting her career in direct legal services or veterans’ care, her trajectory took a meaningful turn when she enrolled in Yale’s Veterans Legal Services Clinic. Goldberg encouraged law students to sign up for health-related courses that might expose them to unfamiliar issue areas, as aspiring attorneys may find their passions in unexpected places.

The event concluded with a question-and-answer session focused on the diverse array of careers at the intersection of health and public interest litigation.
