Thank You to the Donors Who Make MFIA’s Work Possible

The Media Freedom and Information Access (MFIA) Clinic was founded on the belief that a free press and an informed public are essential to a healthy democracy. From the start, our work has depended not only on legal advocacy but also on the generosity of those who share our commitment to transparency, accountability, and press freedom. The support of our donors has made it possible for us to take on urgent cases, train the next generation of First Amendment lawyers, and stand with journalists when it matters most.
We are especially grateful to Floyd Abrams, whose sponsorship helped get the clinic off the ground. His belief in the importance of protecting press freedom was instrumental in shaping our early efforts and gave the clinic the foundation it needed to grow.
The Knight Foundation has been one of MFIA’s most important partners over the years. Its generous support has allowed the clinic to grow its team, take on more cases, and expand its reach in the fight for transparency and press freedom.
We also thank the Stanton Foundation, whose early and sustained support helped MFIA establish its core programs and launch its key initiatives in defense of investigative journalism and government accountability.
We are proud to count Craig Newmark Philanthropies among our most impactful supporters. Craig’s belief in the role of journalism as a public service has made a lasting mark on MFIA’s ability to protect those doing that work. His support has helped fund legal fellows whose advocacy defends investigative journalists, combats secrecy, and pushes back against efforts to silence the press. Craig’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions is not only deeply felt within our clinic but also across the broader community of press freedom advocates.
In addition, we thank the Democracy Fund, the Horace Goldsmith Foundation, and the Legal Clinics Fund for their essential support of our legal fellows. These fellowships are the backbone of MFIA’s work, and they have enabled us to bring legal expertise to the front lines of transparency and accountability.
We are also grateful for the generous contributions of Yale Law School alumni, who continue to champion MFIA’s mission. Their support reflects a shared dedication to public interest law and a belief in the power of legal advocacy to strengthen democratic values.
To all our donors — past, present, and future — we offer our deepest thanks. Your support does more than keep the lights on; it powers a vision of a more open society, a freer press, and a stronger democracy.
