What makes a risk worth taking, whether in markets or in one's career? Trading its own capital rather than managing outside money for clients, Jane Street Capital uses mathematical models, machine learning, and technology to price risk and trade securities. Join Professor John Morley as he speaks with Eugene Kim ‘20 on his work as an equities trader at Jane Street, his path from law to finance, and the advice he would give to students interested in careers in trading.

Eugene Kim is a trader at Jane Street Capital, where he develops some of the firm’s U.S. equities trading strategies. Prior to joining Jane Street, he clerked on the D.C. Circuit and worked as an associate in Cleary Gottlieb’s antitrust practice. He holds a B.A. summa cum laude from Yale College, where he majored in economics, and a J.D. from Yale Law School.

Jane Street is a quantitative trading firm and liquidity provider with a unique focus on technology and collaborative problem-solving. The firm employs more than 3,000 people across offices in New York, Hong Kong, London, Singapore, and Amsterdam.
