For anyone interested in criminal law and practice (both defense and prosecution), visiting Professor Paul Shechtman has generously agreed to participate in a lunch talk on Friday, November 12 at 1:15 pm (room 129). The event is intended to be a casual conversation with someone who is a practicing attorney and has worked as both a prosecutor and a private defense attorney. He will answer questions related to his current representation of Urooj Rahman, one of the New York-based attorneys who allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail into an empty police vehicle during the George Floyd protests. Paul Lewis Shechtman is a Visiting Lecturer in Law at Yale Law School and a partner at Bracewell LLP in New York City. He teaches Criminal Adjudication at Columbia University Law School and acts as the Chief of the Criminal Division at the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. With more than 30 years of experience, Shechtman represents clients in federal and state criminal and regulatory matters. His work spans antitrust law, health care fraud, insider trading, political corruption, and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). Prior to private practice, Shechtman served as the director of criminal justice under former New York Governor George Pataki.
