Asia is a new global laboratory for data privacy law and policy.  Ongoing developments are reshaping the global debate on data governance with implications for the digital economy, civil liberties, national security, and innovation.  What are the major legislative and regulatory movements underway in Asia?  What are the implications of China’s first data privacy law for the region and the world?  Is convergence possible in such a diverse and jurisdictionally fragmented region?  How should we balance rights protections with commercial uses of data?  How do we make sense of “consent” in a world of online users “ticking the box”?  What is and should be the role for data protection regulatory agencies?

Join us for a discussion with Dr. Clarisse Girot, Director for Asia Pacific at the Future of Privacy Forum, as she tackles these questions and their implications for the world’s largest and most populous region.
