Please join the Yale Environmental Law Association and the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies to welcome renowned environmental activist Tim DeChristopher. Mr. DeChristopher is a West Virginia native who first came to national attention when he disrupted a rushed Bureau of Land Management oil and gas auction in December 2008, by posing as a participant and outbidding oil companies for parcels around Arches and Canyonlands National Parks in Utah. He pled a necessity defense, but ended up serving almost 2 years in prison. International human rights activists called him a political prisoner. Before his release in 2013, he was accepted to Harvard Divinity School and is currently studying justice movements. He's recently organized Peaceful Uprising, a volunteer-based climate action group in Utah committed to defending a livable future from the fossil fuel industry, and co-founded the Climate Disobedience Center.
He will be speaking on environmental activism in the Age of Trump.
