Terrestrial Verses is a short film by Ali Asgari and Alireza Khatami which consists of nine vignettes portraying encounters with government officials and byzantine regulations in contemporary Iran (2023). One man has trouble registering his child's birth because the name is not "Islamic" enough. Another woman tries to recoup her car that was impounded for a supposed violation of hijab. Many critics have praised the film, although concerns have also been raised that the directors may have played too much to the biases of Western audiences in a way that could promote Islamophobia.
