Olivier De Schutter is a Visiting Professor of Law at Yale Law School. A professor at the University of Louvain (Belgium) and at SciencesPo (France), he served from 2008 to 2014 as the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to food, and since 2015, he has been a member of the UN Committee on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights. A specialist of fundamental rights in the European Union and economic and social rights in the context of economic globalization, he chaired the European Union Network of Independent Experts on Fundamental Rights from 2002 to 2006, and he was the General Secretary of the International Federation of Human Rights (FIDH) from 2004 to 2008. His publications are at the intersection of human rights, international economic law, and the theory of governance.
