Freelance journalist Christopher Ketcham, author of This Land: How Cowboys, Capitalism, and Corruption Are Ruining the American West, will discuss public lands in the American West and the battles being waged over their fate. His book, which Outside Magazine called "the Desert Solitaire of our time," documents the confluence of commercial exploitation and government misconduct on public lands across the West, the role of the livestock and energy industries in their despoliation, and the impact of rampant malfeasance in the federal land management agencies on wildlife. The talk will be followed by audience Q+A.
Christopher Ketcham has been a freelance journalist for more than 20 years, publishing in Harper's, National Geographic, The New Republic, Mother Jones, and other publications. This Land, his first book, is the product of ten years of sojourning and research on the public lands of the American West. Read an adapted excerpt from This Land in The New York Times.
