U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal and influential Connecticut legislators state Rep. Steven Stafstrom and state Sen. Gary Winfield will discuss their experiences working to address the gun violence epidemic through federal and state legislation.
Lunch will be served and a reception will follow.
Guest Speaker Bios:
The Hon. Richard Blumenthal is the senior U.S. senator for the state of Connecticut. Prior to taking office in 2011, Blumenthal served for two decades as Connecticut’s attorney general. From 1984 to 1990, he served in the Connecticut General Assembly as a state representative and later a state senator. Previously Senator Blumenthal also served as the U.S. Attorney for Connecticut. In the wake of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary shootings, Senator Blumenthal became a champion of common-sense legislation to reduce gun violence. Details on his efforts can be found here.
The Hon. Steven Stafstrom is a representative from Bridgeport in the Connecticut House of Representatives, where he has served since 2015. He is currently the House Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, and in this role he has made strengthening Connecticut’s gun regulations a priority. In 2019, he led passage of a new law to expand safe firearm storage requirements.
The Hon. Gary Winfield represents New Haven in the Connecticut Senate. He is serving his fourth term as a state senator and previously served four terms as a state representative. Winfield serves as the Senate Chairman of the Judiciary Committee. In 2019, led passage of three bills that will enhance gun safety across Connecticut, He is also a member of the Appropriations, Education, and Public Safety & Security Committees.
