The Chae Initiative in Private Sector Leadership invites you to lunch with Jonathan Knee ’88, Visiting Professor of Law and the Michael T. Fries Professor of Professional Practice of Media and Technology at Columbia Business School and senior advisor at the boutique investment banking firm, Evercore Inc.

At this lunch, Professor Knee will share insights from his prolific career in investment banking, which has spanned managing director roles at Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, and Evercore. He will also discuss an overview of the investment banking industry broadly and the day-to-day work of an investment banker.

Jonathan A. Knee is a senior advisor in Evercore’s corporate advisory business. At Evercore, he has advised the Scripps family on the sale of SNI Networks to Discovery; the merger of the broadcast operations of The E.W. Scripps Co. and Journal Communications, and the spin/merge of their corresponding newspaper operations; Ancestry.com on its strategic investment from Silver Lake/GIC; Atlantic Media on its sale of The Atlantic to the Emerson Collective; among many other transactions.

Prior to joining Evercore, Knee was a managing director and co-head of the media group at Morgan Stanley. He also was the publishing sector head in the communications, media and entertainment group at Goldman Sachs.

His writing has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Atlantic and his most recent book is The Platform Delusion: Who Wins and Who Loses in the Age of Tech Titans (Portfolio, 2021).

Knee earned his JD from Yale Law School, an MBA from Stanford Business School, an M.Sc. from Trinity College Dublin, and a B.A. from Boston University.
