Reflections on the Global Food System: China, the United States, and the Challenges of Interdependence

From the westernmost point of Africa to Beijing, Rome, and the heartland of the United States, the global food system is deeply interconnected. This summer, 2L Mariama Mwilambwe worked across four continents on issues of international food systems. In this talk, she reflects on China’s evolving role in global food governance and argues that the United States and China—despite their tensions—must recognize their interdependence in feeding the world, both in times of stability and in times of crisis.
