In today’s highly interconnected and digitized world we have great opportunities for innovation. Yet, the daily global large scale breaches and ransomware attacks are evidence that the threats and risks in cyberspace are real and need to be understood. Why are all the breaches occurring? Can we still preserve privacy when faced with billions of IoT devices that seem to endless collect our personal information and share it with countless other entities? This talk will shed light on how many attacks and breaches are realized today and what we all collectively can do to help preserve security, privacy and trust as we continue to evolve our digital world. It will highlight how Estonia was innovative in creating its legal framework in the late 1990’s and how it continues to evolve and set a precedent to foster a highly functioning and trusted digital society.
Merike Kaeo is the CEO and founder of Double Shot Security. She has over 25 years of experience in pioneering Internet technology deployments and developing international policy and corporate security initiatives. She is a frequently sought after panelist and keynote speaker on topics promoting strategies to create stable, resilient and safe digital economies.
Since 2010, she has been on ICANN's Security and Stability Advisory Council (SSAC), and currently serves as the SSAC liaison member to the ICANN Board of Directors. Merike has participated on the FCC's Communications Security, Reliability and Interoperability Council (CSRIC) and served a one-year term on the ARIN Board of Trustees from Jan 1, 2017 to Dec 31, 2017.
