Panelists:

Michele Bratcher Goodwin is a Chancellor’s Professor and founding director of the Center for Biotechnology and Global Health Policy at University of California, Irvine. She is an acclaimed bioethicist, constitutional law scholar, and prolific author. Professor Goodwin directed the first ABA-accredited health law program in the nation and established the first law center focused on race and bioethics. She is an Executive Committee member of the ACLU and the recipient of the 2020-21 Distinguished Senior Faculty Award for Research, the highest honor bestowed by the University of California. Her books include Policing The Womb: Invisible Women and the Criminalization of Motherhood (2020); Baby Markets: Money and the Politics of Creating Families (2010); and Black Markets: The Supply and Demand of Body Parts (2006).

Tarun Jain, MD is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine & Medical Director of Fertility & Reproductive Medicine-West Region. Dr. Jain is actively involved on the Executive Council of the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) as Clinical Director and is a Section Editor of Reproductive Biology & Endocrinology Journal. He has over 40 peer-reviewed publications and has authored the book The Infertility Journey. He is a health services researcher who is recognized for his work on the impact of mandated insurance coverage on IVF utilization and outcomes, and on identifying and better understanding racial and socioeconomic disparities in the care of infertility patients. He completed his Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility (REI) fellowship at Brigham & Women's Hospital and his Ob/Gyn residency at the University of Washington.

Michael A. Thomas, MD is Professor and Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Dr. Thomas is nationally recognized as a leader in the field of assisted reproduction and contraceptive research. He has over 100 scientific publications and book chapters. Dr. Thomas serves on national committees and boards including the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (current Vice President). He graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in Radio-TV-Film, then matriculated at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. After medical school, Dr. Thomas was a resident in obstetrics and gynecology at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, then completed his fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
