Facing Life is a two-day symposium consisting of conversations happening on campus and off-campus at the site of the Law and Racial Justice Center offices. The Symposium is designed to bring to life the digital experience of The Visiting Room Project, “a digital experience that invites the public to sit face-to-face with people serving life without the possibility of parole to hear them tell their stories, in their own words.” The Symposium invites members of the Yale and New Haven community into conversation with men profiled by the project, members of the project team, and New Haveners who are working locally to disrupt mass incarceration. Our hope is to spark ongoing local conversations and collective action around ways to support our community members who are or have been detained in prisons and jails.
