Bethany Brown, Human Rights Watch (HRW) researcher who focuses on older people's rights, will present the recently published HRW report, “‘They Want Docile’: How Nursing Homes in the United States Overmedicate People with Dementia.” This report documents the widespread use of antipsychotic drugs as “chemical restraints” in nursing homes on older persons with dementia, despite association with a nearly doubled risk of death. Tamar Ezer will facilitate a roundtable discussion of the report; the roundtable aims to foster a cross-disciplinary dialogue among the law, medical, and public health schools.
