TAP Lunch Talk: FTC v. Meta

Apr. 9, 2026
12:00PM - 1:00PM
Baker Room 128
Open to the YLS Community Only

The Thurman Arnold Project is pleased to invite you to a lunch talk on the FTC v. Meta decision. We have an excellent group of antitrust experts joining in person and over Zoom to discuss the case. Leading the discussion in the room will be Prof. Fiona Scott Morton, David Dinielli, David Lawrence (former Policy Director, DOJ Antitrust Division), and Prof. Rebecca Allensworth of Vanderbilt and we will have others online.

The FTC’s monopolization case against Meta alleged that the company unlawfully maintained its monopoly in personal social networking through a series of anticompetitive actions, including the acquisitions of Instagram and WhatsApp and the imposition of restrictive conditions on third-party APIs. In November 2025, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia ruled in favor of Meta. The case raises important questions about defining relevant markets and proving monopoly power in dynamic digital markets. The issues remain live, as the FTC has appealed the decision.
