YLBS Conference: Comparative Perspectives on Sustainable Finance Law

Mar. 3, 2023
All Day
Baker Hall Room 116
Open to the Public

Regulators across the Atlantic are delving deep into the financial rulebook to shape its role in the transition towards a more sustainable economy. Sustainable development arguments, however, need to be balanced with arguments of investor protection, financial stability, sound corporate governance and price stability.

A provocative new article by Professor Veerle Colaert may debunk some enthusiasm in claiming that the sustainable finance objective should give way to the traditional objectives of financial regulation should a conflict arise between them. After her keynote speech, four legal expert panels will debate how sustainable finance is, can or should (not) be integrated in the financial rulebook.

The conference offers a pioneering forum to compare regulatory initiatives that are now proposed in the U.S. with the regulations in force in the EU. Identifying similarities or insurmountable differences between the European and U.S. sustainable finance laws will shed light on which, if any, common transatlantic transformations of the financial system are to be expected.

A Zoom link will be sent to registered participants.
