ACLU of Southern California et al. v. LAPD

About the Case

The Clinic and co-counsel Adrienna Wong, a staff attorney at the ACLU of Southern California and one of the Clinic's founders, represent two jounalists, a professor, and the ACLU of Southern California in lawsuit against the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) alleging a pattern and practice of violating the California Public Records Act (CPRA). The petition details LAPD's routine failure to comply with the CPRA's statutory deadlines for responding to public records requests. Petitioners seek systemic injunctive and declaratory relief requiring LAPD to take measures to ensure that it complies with the CPRA going forward.

After the Clinic filed its petition, counsel for LAPD entered into negotiations with the Clinic's clients. The parties are currently working to overhaul LAPD's CPRA response infrastructure and hope to resolve this matter amicably.
