Laura Matta

Laura Matta is an AI Safety and Policy researcher, focusing on the intersection of law, technology, and public policy. With experience across organizations such as the law firm Machado Meyer Advogados, think-tank InternetLab, and in-house counsel work in tech startups, she has worked on AI governance, legal automation, data protection and policy research. She has technical expertise in Python, JavaScript, and SQL for data analysis and workflow automation. Her current work is focused on AI catastrophic risks, especially those arising out of job substitution and displacement and the policy frameworks to ensure their safety - using empirical and technical methods to provide valuable insights for regulation. Her former research includes topics such as liability of automated systems, the use of AI for legal reasoning, legal automation, digital rights, freedom of expression, surveillance systems and privacy, among others.
