Luís Miguel Poiares Pessoa Maduro is a Sidley Austin-Robert D. McLean ’70 Visiting Professor in Law at Yale Law School. Maduro also serves as dean and the Vieira de Almeida Chair Professor of the Global Law School at Universidade Católica in Portugal. His scholarship focuses on European Union law, international economic law, constitutional law, transnational law and governance, comparative institutional analysis, sports governance, and social innovation. He was previously the director of the EUI School of Transnational Governance and has served as the minister adjunct to the Prime Minister and minister for regional development within the Portuguese Government. He has, in addition, served as an advocate general for the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg as well as many professorships at various institutions across Europe. Maduro has published and edited numerous books, chapters, and articles, including “Democracy in Times of Pandemic,” which he co-edited with Robert W. Winner Professor of Law and Humanities Paul W. Kahn (Cambridge University Press, 2020). Maduro earned a degree from the Universidade de Lisboa and a Doctorate in Law from the European University Institute.
