Sharon Buccino

Sharon Buccino is a visiting lecturer in law at Yale Law School and director and senior attorney at the Civic Law Center. A practitioner and lecturer in administrative, natural resources, and public land management law, Buccino provides support to local governments and community nonprofits through the Civic Law Center in legislation, energy, environment, land use, and other legal matters. From 2024 to 2025, Buccino was the principal deputy director of the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement. At the agency, she led the distribution of billions of dollars to coal communities for mine land reclamation and economic development. Previously, she was the director and senior attorney for land and wildlife at the Natural Resources Defense Counsel. As an educator and scholar, Buccino has been visiting faculty teaching courses on local government, environmental law, and public land management at Georgetown Law, the University of Wyoming College of Law, and the S.J. Quinney School of Law at the University of Utah. 

She serves on the Board for the Albany County (WY) Housing and Land Trust and the Continental Divide Trail Coalition. She is also a planning commissioner for the City of Laramie (WY).
