Alan Plattus is a Professor (Adjunct) of Law at Yale Law School and Professor of Architecture and Urbanism at the Yale School of Architecture, where he directs the Ph.D. program and was previously Associate Dean. Plattus founded the Yale Urban Design Workshop and Center for Urban Design Research (YUDW), which partners with communities across Connecticut and the region to carry out research and design studies. An expert in urban history and architectural theory, he has independently practiced as a consultant. Plattus’ professional service includes terms on the boards of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture, the National Architectural Accrediting Board, the Journal of Architectural Education, and Architectural Research Quarterly. He also participated in the Committee for the Third Regional Plan of New York and chaired the Education Task Force of the Congress for the New Urbanism. Plattus, a fellow of the Institute for Urban Design and Yale University’s Whitney Humanities Center, is a 1976 graduate of Yale College and received an M.Arch. from Princeton University in 1979. The City of New Haven and Yale University recognized Plattus with the Elm-Ivy Award in 1995.
