Alejandra Velapatino

Alejandra Velapatino is a Peruvian- and US-trained attorney with over 10 years of experience in privacy and compliance across the technology, international development, and consumer goods sectors. Most recently, Alejandra served as a Privacy Compliance Specialist at Amazon's Devices & Digital Services division, where she advised cross-functional teams on the practical implementation of privacy policy, evaluated privacy controls for AI-powered products such as Alexa and Kindle, and vetted new applications with regard to their access, deletion, and data retention obligations prior to launch.

Alejandra began in privacy compliance as a Data Privacy Compliance Intern at the World Bank's Data Privacy Office, where she supported the institution's first privacy compliance program, conducting data mapping and drafting privacy gap assessments for multiple business units. She also served as a Data Privacy Research Fellow at TeachPrivacy, researching Latin American data privacy laws under the direction of Professor Daniel Solove. Prior to her privacy law career, Alejandra served for six years as Product Counsel at Belcorp, a leading Latin American consumer products corporation, where she advised on advertising and consumer protection compliance across 13 countries.

Alejandra holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Business & Finance Law, concentrating in data privacy, from The George Washington University Law School, where she received the Pro-Bono Service Award for Outstanding Work in the Public Interest. She earned her law degree (Peruvian J.D. equivalent) from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru.
