Dr. Bin Ling

Dr. Bin Ling is a Professor of Law at Peking University Law School. He received his Bachelor of Laws (2000) and Ph.D. in Laws (2005) from Peking University Law School. He then pursued advanced legal studies at Yale Law School, where he earned his Master of Laws (LL.M., 2006) and Doctor of the Science of Law (J.S.D., 2024). His research focuses on jurisprudence, law and social sciences, and law and public policy. He currently serves as the Director of the Center for Law and Social Governance at Peking University. He also served as Deputy Chief Judge, member of the Judicial Committee, and judge at Fangshan District People's Court in Beijing (2011-2013). He has held visiting scholar positions at Cornell Law School (2013), Tilburg University Law School, Netherlands (2014), Center for Chinese Studies at University of Hawaii (2015-2016, 2024), Columbia Law School (2019), and Yale Law School (2024). His publications include The Cost of Law: A Critique of Law and Economics (2012), The Chinese Path to Rule of Law (2013), and other legal scholarship. While at the Center, Professor Ling is completing a box on “polycentric governance in China”.
