Judge Angela Robinson ’89 will be honored at the Edwin Archer Randolph Diversity Award Ceremony on May 18, 2017 at the UTC/Pratt & Whitney Hangar Museum in East Hartford, CT. The awards are given by the Lawyers Collaborative for Diversity, which was formed by concerned lawyers to answer the call for diversity. Their current challenge is to increase the recruitment, retention, and promotion of lawyers of color, not only as good social policy, but also as good business practice.

When Judge Angela C. Robinson was appointed to the Connecticut Superior Court in 1998, at the age of 33, she became the youngest Superior Court Judge in Connecticut history. During her 19 year tenure as a judge, Judge Robinson has handled criminal, civil, family, juvenile and housing matters, in courthouses in Bridgeport, Danbury, Derby, Meriden, Milford, New Haven, and New Britain, and has authored close to four hundred written decisions. She is currently the Administrative Judge of the Judicial District of New Haven one of the largest districts in the State.

Robinson began her legal career as a litigation and health-care associate at Wiggin and Dana, in New Haven. Upon leaving Wiggin and Dana, Robinson joined the Bridgeport plaintiff’s trial law firm, Koskoff, Koskoff and Bieder, where she specialized in medical malpractice, premises liability, employment discrimination, and child abuse cases.

During her years as a plaintiff’s trial attorney, and throughout her years as a Judge, Robinson has been active in efforts to diversify the legal profession and the bench. To that end, she has served on numerous bench and bar committees, she has actively mentored college and law students as well as young lawyers, and she has worked with public and private schools to host court visits and serve as guest speaker/reader.

Robinson has taught, spoken on, or written about such topics as attorney misconduct, civics, discovery, evidence, jury selection, the history of minority and women lawyers and judges, the legal profession in Connecticut, and work-life balance. For her contributions to the legal community and to the Greater New Haven area, Robinson has received many awards and recognition, including her recent selection as the recipient for the 2015 Judicial Award of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association; her selection as the Honoree for the Connecticut Bar Association’s Diversity Award, given by the Young Lawyers Division in November 2014; and her selection by the New Haven Board of Alders in February 2014, as an Honoree for its Black History Month Program.

Robinson donates much of her free time to pubic and charitable organizations and is the co-founder and co-organizer of L.A.W. Camp for Teens in New Haven, CT, which has, as its stated goal, the introduction of high school students—particularly those from under-represented groups—to the legal profession.
