Nabiha Syed ’10 Honored with Freedom of the Press Award
Nabiha Syed '10 will receive the first ever Rising Star Award presented by the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press at their Freedom of the Press Awards this year. Syed is Vice President of Legal and Associate General Counsel at BuzzFeed. The RCFP provides pro bono legal support and resources to defend the First Amendment and journalists' newsgathering rights. Their award ceremony will take place in New York City on May 22.
Syed was inspired to pursue a career in First Amendment and media law after listening to a talk by Lucy Dalglish, former executive director of the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, while she was a student at Yale Law School. In 2009, she co-founded the Media Freedom and Information Access legal clinic at Yale and in 2011, she was named a First Amendment Fellow at the New York Times.
