Professor Abbe R. Gluck Named Chair of Fund for Modern Courts

Professor Abbe R. Gluck ’00 was named chair of the board of directors of The Fund for Modern Courts, succeeding William C. Silverman as of January, the organization announced on Dec. 12.

“Abbe embodies the intellectual rigor, independence, and forward-thinking leadership that Modern Courts needs at this moment,” said Modern Courts Executive Director Denise Kronstadt. In making its announcement, the board applauded Gluck’s history of “rigorous research and real-world problem-solving, with a focus on improving access to justice, modernizing public systems, and strengthening democratic institutions.“

The Fund for Modern Courts is a nonpartisan, statewide organization committed to access to justice and the independence of state courts, both in New York and across the nation. Gluck, a longstanding member of its board who most recently served as vice chair, will lead the board as it oversees implementation of Modern Courts’ strategic plan, advances statewide reform projects, and strengthens partnerships with court leaders, legal services providers, and community stakeholders.

Abbe R. Gluck is the Alfred M. Rankin Professor of Law and the founding faculty director of the Solomon Center for Health Law and Policy at Yale Law School, where she also founded and directs the Yale Law School Medical Legal Partnership Program. She is an expert on state courts and federalism, Congress and the political process, civil procedure, and health law, and served in the Biden administration as Special Counsel to the President as well as a member of the White House Counsel’s Office. Gluck is also a professor of internal medicine (General Medicine) at Yale School of Medicine and a professor in the Institution for Social and Policy Studies at Yale.
