Film Screening: Incompatible With Life with Filmmaker Eliza Capai

Nov. 8, 2023
6:00PM - 8:00PM
SLB Room 122
Open to the Yale Community

Join us for a film screening of a short documentary titled, Incompatible With Life, on 11/8/23 at 6pm.

“Incompatible with Life” begins by intimately documenting the filmmaker’s own journey through a medical abortion procedure in Portugal, where abortion is legal, after learning her fetus had a life-incompatible malformation. Capai then shifts her focus to Brazil, where she seeks out women who face the same diagnosis in a country where abortion is criminalized. A decade after allowing abortion for anencephalic fetuses, Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court may finally take decriminalization up again in the coming months. A motion to decriminalize voluntary abortion up to the third month was given a major boost in the Brazilian Supreme Court’s docket when Justice Rosa Weber voted for taking up the case shortly before reaching the age of mandatory retirement. The film itself was produced by tva2.doc, an independent film production company specializing in socially relevant documentary projects founded by Mariana Genescá in 2008.

Followed by discussion with Eliza Capai.  Dinner will be provided. Free and open to the Yale community.
