It is easy, and natural, to feel lost in the blizzard of daily outrages we are experiencing. But it is the job of historians to step back and consider the long-term roots of the current catastrophe. Are we witnessing an American chapter in a broader historical tale of the rise of oligarchy? Are we living in the midst of the Fifth Great Awakening? Of a racial backlash? Professors Whitman and Witt will conduct a conversation on such questions.
