This year, the Program for the Study of Reproductive Justice (PSRJ) and its Democracy Initiative is a hosting a speaker series focused on legal skill building and career paths for the next generation. We have the privilege of hosting attorneys with accomplished careers in Supreme Court and appellate advocacy, appellate clerkships, defending democracy, reproductive rights, gender justice, and beyond. Lourdes Rivera, President of Pregnancy Justice, will be joining us in person.
Lourdes A. Rivera ‘90 (she/her/ella) is the President of Pregnancy Justice where she leads a team to ensure that no one loses their rights because of pregnancy by advocating for and defending people charged with pregnancy-related crimes and other rights violations. This includes combating the escalating threats since the fall of Roe v. Wade, advocating for the rights and full personhood of all pregnant people, cultivating deeper partnerships, and ensuring that the powerful voices of those with most at stake are at the table.
Lourdes has more than 30 years of experience as a respected leader in reproductive rights and justice, health law and policy, and philanthropy. Prior to becoming President of Pregnancy Justice, Lourdes served as a senior vice president of U.S. Programs at the Center for Reproductive Rights, overseeing comprehensive litigation, policy advocacy, and partnership strategies. Lourdes is a co- founder of California Latinas for Reproductive Justice and of the Groundswell Fund, a former board member of the National Health Law Program, and former president and vice-president of the Brush Foundation. She also received an American Bar Association presidential appointment to the ABA’s Coalition on Racial and Ethnic Justice in 2023, 2024 and 2025. She earned a J.D. from Yale Law School and a B.A. from Yale University
