Dan Wang is one of the leading international experts on China’s technological capabilities, especially semiconductors and clean tech. His work also includes Chinese manufacturing and trade, and U.S. regulatory actions regarding Chinese technology and its development (export controls, SDN, CFIUS). From 2017-2023, he was the technology analyst at Gavekal Dragonomics, the Beijing-based economics research firm, and he has become one of the most authoritative and frequently cited experts on China and technology.
In 2023 Wang joined the Paul Tsai China Center as a Visiting Scholar, and is now a Center Fellow. He is currently writing a book to be published by W. W. Norton and Penguin UK in fall 2025. He is also a Lecturer at Yale’s Macmillan Center for International and Area Studies.
Wang’s essays have been published in Foreign Affairs (cover story), The New York Times, Financial Times, The Atlantic, New York Magazine, Bloomberg, and other publications. He is also a frequent guest on prominent podcasts and keynote speaker at institutions including the Asia Society, Apple, Jane Street and various universities. He also participates in numerous dialogues and workshops that the Center organizes related to U.S.-China relations.
