Ethan Chiu is a sophomore at Yale University studying Global Affairs and History at the intersection of foreign policy and emerging technologies. At the ISP, he investigates the First Amendment, privacy, and broader geopolitical implications of TikTok’s potential forced sale, along with Taiwan-related disinformation and election issues. He also helps with events such as the Propaganda and Emerging Technologies Conference. Aside from ISP, Ethan conducts research for John Kerry as a 2023-2024 Kerry Fellow, develops cyber conflict and disinformation theories for the DOD Information Strategy Research Center, evaluates PRC perceptions in the Middle East with the National Defense University, and examines how to strengthen biotech risk assessment frameworks with the Geopolitics of Technology Initiative. On campus, Ethan is the Chairman and Founding President Emeritus of the Yale Foreign Policy Initiative, Hamilton National Fellow and Vice President of the Yale Alexander Hamilton Society, International Liaison for the Yale Review of International Studies, Political Chair of the Taiwanese-American Society, and an Executive Board Member of the Yale College Council. He has previously worked at the American Enterprise Institute, Department of Defense, and International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, focusing on Taiwan, semiconductor, and humanitarian AI issues. Ethan also has an extensive background in data analysis, machine learning, stem cell development, CRISPR gene editing, affordable healthcare advocacy, and clean water issues. He is proficient in Mandarin and Spanish.
