Yale Law School students must assume an official position to receive monetary compensation for services rendered. Positions of this type must be supervised by members of the Yale Law School administration, and only work that is within the job description and performed at the direction of the administration is compensable. Because this process involves the disbursement of Law School funds, the administration is responsible for creating and promoting official positions available to students for compensation. Examples of official positions for compensation include Admissions Office workers (Admissions Representatives, Diversity Representatives, Admissions Coordinators), Alumni Weekend Student Aides under the Office of Alumni Engagement and Development, Career Development Office Student Advisors, and the Office of Student Affairs’ Dean’s Advisors and Peer Advocates. Students are ineligible to receive compensation for work performed outside an official position, whether before or after services are rendered.
