Alumni Weekend 2016 Highlights
Alumni from around the country and the world gathered in New Haven on October 21–23 for the annual reunion. Highlights were special class reunion events and an array of panels focusing on pressing current issues. The panels were on community policing, moderated by Professor Tracey L. Meares; climate change, moderated by Professor Daniel C. Esty ’86; national security, moderated by Professor Oona A. Hathaway ’97; health law, moderated by Abbe R. Gluck ’00; and reproductive rights, moderated by Reva Siegel ’86.
The weekend also featured a variety of events including an open house at the Paskus-Danziger Rare Book Room, student organization programming, and many other informal activities that will give alumni the chance to reconnect with old classmates and faculty members.
The centerpiece of the weekend was the Award of Merit presentation on Saturday, October 22, with Governor of California Edmund G. Brown Jr. ’64 and Governor of Rhode Island Gina Raimondo ’98 receiving the honor. The Award of Merit is presented by The Yale Law School Association, the alumni organization of Yale Law School, to honor an esteemed graduate or longtime faculty member for their contribution to public service or the legal profession.
A memorial service and reception was also held on Friday, October 21, to honor the life of Jan Deutsch ’61, Hamilton Professor Emeritus of Law and Professorial Lecturer in Law.
