Governor Jerry Brown Appoints Bill Sokol to California Secure Choice Retirement Savings Investment Board

Governor Jerry Brown has appointed Bill Sokol to the California Secure Choice Retirement Savings Investment Board. The Board was created in 2014 by Senate Bill 1234 to develop and oversee a new statewide defined contribution retirement fund for all private sector workers who do not already have a 401k plan or a collectively bargained retirement plan. Mr. Sokol is excited about the possibility of helping develop a new retirement fund for millions of California workers and looks forward to making this new retirement plan a reality as soon as possible. Mr. Sokol will work with the chairman of the Board, newly elected State Treasurer John Chiang.

Mr. Sokol will mark 40 years with Weinberg Roger and Rosenfeld, a Union-side labor law firm in the Bay Area, in May 2016. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin, receiving Phi Beta Kappa honors. After spending a year at Yale Law School in 1971, Mr. Sokol pursued a master’s degree in Modern American History at the University of California, which he received in 1972. Mr. Sokol received his Juris Doctor from the Boalt School of Law in 1976.
