Gregory Dubinsky ’11 Named Partner at Holwell Shuster & Goldberg

Gregory Dubinsky '11 has been promoted to partner at Holwell Shuster & Goldberg LLP.

“Greg is the kind of partner we aspired to attract when we founded this firm,” said Richard Holwell, co-founder of the firm and former judge in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. “He brings an extremely high level of skill to matters of the greatest import to our clients and to our legal system.”

Dubinsky, a former clerk to Justice Anthony Kennedy, then-Judge Brett Kavanaugh (D.C. Cir.), and Judge Gary Feinerman (N.D. Ill.), specializes in complex commercial cases in trial and appellate postures.

Dubinsky is on the trial team representing Valassis Communications in a massive, multi-hundred-million-dollar antitrust case brought against News Corp.  The case is expected to be scheduled for trial in 2021. Dubinskyplayed a pivotal role in securing the denial of News Corp.’s motion for summary judgment and in overseeing the damages component of the case, including deposing News Corp.’s damages expert.

He recently secured a significant appellate ruling by the New York First Department, reversing a $250 million judgment in an insurance coverage dispute brought by J.P. Morgan and Bear Stearns. The decision clarified the principle that New York public policy prohibits insurance for amounts paid to the SEC in disgorgement for violation of securities laws.

Dubinsky has actively represented parties before the U.S. Supreme Court and other appellate courts in political, civil rights, and First Amendment disputes. In a concurring opinion joined by three justices, Justice Elena Kagan quoted an amicus brief that he co-authored on behalf of a bipartisan group of state legislators in Gill v. Whitford, the high-profile challenge to partisan gerrymandering in Wisconsin.

Dubinsky has argued numerous cases in the U.S. Courts of Appeals. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit commended his performance in an appeal raising the important First Amendment issue of press access to the personal information of jurors in criminal matters.

A graduate of Yale Law School, Dubinsky was a student director of the Yale Supreme Court Clinic, where he helped draft merits briefs and petitions for writs of certiorari before the Supreme Court, an executive editor of the Yale Law Journal, and an articles editor of the Yale Journal of International Law. During law school, he spent time as a Yale Kirby Simon Fellow working for an international organization in Kosovo on matters involving human rights and the rule of law.

Before joining Holwell Shuster & Goldberg in 2017, Dubinsky was an associate at Boies Schiller Flexner LLP.
