The Center was founded by former U.S. Sen. Gary Hart ’64, in affiliation with Metropolitan State University (MSU) of Denver. It was created to promote non-partisan national civic participation and the fundamental value of civic engagement to our American democratic republic. Based upon the life’s work of Senator Hart, the Hart Center will facilitate both academic and practical dialogue and actions that investigate, renew, inspire and empower citizen engagement in our society's most pressing issues, bringing together the MSU academic community with public service innovators throughout the western U.S. and with a new generation of diverse Western citizenry. The Center will maintain its home office at MSU.
