Knowlton ’87 Joins Taylor English
ATLANTA, June 23, 2016—Taylor English Duma announces that Leah J. Knowlton ’87 has joined the firm as a partner in the Environmental and Energy team. Knowlton was previously a partner at Ballard Spahr LLP in Atlanta.

Knowlton brings more than 25 years of experience counseling clients on environmental regulatory matters. She advises clients involved in criminal and civil litigation arising from chemical contamination and other environmental violations. On the preemptive front, she regularly develops and implements environmental compliance management systems, and advises on chemical safety and security matters. She frequently works with clients to assess their environmental risk, and to negotiate contracts and remediation plans in corporate and real estate transactions. She is a LEED Accredited Professional for New Construction and Major Renovations Projects.
Frequently recognized by her peers for her excellence in environmental law and client service, Knowlton has been named among leading lawyers by Atlanta Magazine, Chambers USA, Georgia Trend, the Georgia Women's Institute and Super Lawyers.
Knowlton earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago and her law degree from Yale Law School.
Taylor English’s Environmental and Energy practice represents clients in civil and criminal environmental litigation and provides regulatory compliance advice to clients in a wide range of industries, including gas and petroleum, production and distribution, and manufacturing of plastics, foods, beverages, chemicals and pharmaceuticals. The team works with clients to navigate environmental emergencies and respond strategically and responsibly to government actions. In addition, the team assesses environmental risks and remediation strategies in connection with the sale, purchase and financing of contaminated properties, and provides advice on tax incentives for Brownfield redevelopment and energy development tax policy.
