Professor Morley to Present Inaugural Augustus E. Lines Lecture on Feb. 24

Professor John Morley ’06 will present the inaugural lecture of his appointment as Augustus E. Lines Professor of Law on Feb. 24, 2025.
The lecture is titled “Generational Equity: Temporariness and Permanence in Business and Societies.”
A member of the Law School faculty since 2013, Morley is a leading expert on the regulation and structure of investment funds, and his work focuses on the law and economics of organizations as well as the law of trusts and estates.
His other research interests include why law firms collapse and a history of the common law trust as a substitute for the corporate form. He serves as a reporter for the Uniform Directed Trust Act.
In addition to his teaching and research, Morley serves as faculty director of the Michael S. and Alexa B. Chae Initiative in Private Sector Leadership at Yale Law School, which provides focused educational and professional development to Yale Law School students who aspire to nontraditional careers and leadership roles in the private sector.
Morley was appointed Augustus E. Lines Professor of Law at Yale Law School in 2024. Prior to joining the Yale Law School faculty, Morley was a member of the faculty at the University of Virginia School of Law and the executive director of the Center for the Study of Corporate Law at Yale Law School. He received his B.S. in political science and economics from the University of Utah and his J.D. from Yale Law School.
The lecture, which is open to the Yale community, will be held Monday, Feb. 24 at 4:30 p.m. in Room 127 of the Sterling Law Building. Registration is required by Feb. 19.
