Conference on the 20th Anniversary of Kelo v. City of New London
In Kelo v. City of New London (2005), the U.S. Supreme Court held that a local government does not violate the Fifth Amendment's Public Use Clause if it condemns private residential lots and transfers them to commercial developers, to promote local economic growth as part of a comprehensive municipal development plan. This conference reflects on Kelo twenty years later—its legacy, and its implications today. Speakers include Susette Kelo, the lawyers who argued the case for both sides in the Supreme Court, and leading professors in the fields of property law and eminent domain.
The event will be a series of panel discussions with leading professors in the field of property law and takings.
